Lost Your Keys or Combination? Call the Lost Key Hotline 1-800-622-4903

Frequently Asked Questions.
If your question is not found here, please call for technical
assistance at 1-800-593-6095.

The following section applies to all models of Gun Vault gunsafes.
  1. Where do I find the serial number and key code?
Open the vault and lift the foam on the floor of the unit. There you will find a sticker with the serial number and key code. Newer units have a key code stamped on the face of the key lock.

  2. Why does the light flash when I open my Gun Vault gunsafe?
This is a low battery indicator and means that it is time to change the batteries.

  3. What do I do if I've lost my keys and the batteries are dead?
Locate the key code (not available on some older units) on the face of the key lock or on the tear-off stub that was attached to your warranty card. Call Gun Vault technical support and order a new key. Then change the batteries and reprogram your Gun Vault gunsafe. If you cannot find a key code, you will have to have a locksmith open the unit for you. You will then be able to obtain the key code from the sticker found on the floor of the unit under the foam. Any attempt to break into the Gun Vault will void the warranty.

  4. Does my Gun Vault gunsafe retain my code when I change the batteries?
No, anytime the power is disconnected for more than two minutes the electronic lock reverts to the factory default code of 1-2-3-4. You should re-program the Gun Vault after changing the batteries.

  5. Can I push two buttons together as an entry of my Gun Vault access code?
Yes. Gun Vault access codes are made up of entries. Each entry may consist of one, two, three, or four buttons pressed at a time. Gun Vault gunsafes manufactured prior to 1999 allows for access codes from three to four entries long. Gun Vault gunsafes manufactured in 1999 or after allows for access codes from three to six entries long.

  6. The Gun Vault gunsafe will not accept my code. What do I do?
It is possible that you triggered the security sleep mode by inputting too many invalid entries. Disconnect power for two minutes. While the power is disconnected depressed the buttons on the keypads several times. Then reconnect power and reprogram your gunsafe.

  7. The door doesn't open when I enter my access code.
Check the battery pack to ensure that there is a proper connection and that the batteries are good. Re-program the unit so that you are sure that you are using a valid access code. If these do not solve the problem, call technical support for assistance.

  8. How do I choose an access code?
Your access code must be simple enough that you can enter it reliably and complicated enough that it isn't easy to guess. It is a good idea to pick entries in your access code that employs your strong fingers. The pinky finger is weak and shouldn't be used by itself. Make your access code hard to guess by choosing entries that require more than one button to be pressed at a time. For instance, your first entry might be buttons one and two pressed together. This is a good choice since it's hard to guess and it's easy to do.

  9. How do I change my access code?
For models manufactured prior to 1999.
Enter the current access code. If this is the first time you have programmed your safe, then use the factory code 1-2-3-4. When the door opens immediately press all four buttons at once. Hold the buttons down for about one second and then release them. This will turn on the learn light (on the keypad). Immediately enter your new access code. Immediately after the red light has turned off, enter your new code a second time. The red light will turn on again for about five seconds indicating that a valid access code has been stored. If at any time you see a flashing light during this process, you have made mistake and must start over.

For models manufactured in or after 1999.
Press the learn button until you see a green light and hear a beep. Enter you new access code (the light will remain green). Press the learn button again until you see a red light and hear another beep. Enter your new access code again (the light will remain red). Press the learn button again and the light will blink five times and you will hear five beeps confirming that a valid access code has been stored.

  10. What kind of maintenance is required for the Gun Vault gunsafe?
Lubricate your Gun Vault gunsafe once a year (when changing the batteries). Use a Q-Tip and a good quality oil to lubricate the loop on the door. Do not spray anything inside the Gun Vault gunsafe.

1999 Models Only
  1. How do I turn the alarm on my deluxe unit off once it has been set off?
Enter your access code through the keypad and the alarm will turn off.

  2. How do I turn off (or on) the keypad sound?
This is referred to as stealth mode in the manual. To employ the stealth mode feature, you must depress the learn button seven times. Each time you depress the learn button there will be a corresponding number of beeps. After the seventh depression of the learn button hold buttons two and three down together for at least five seconds. You should see the green light flash to indicate that the beeper has either been turned on, or off.

  3. How do I check to see if someone has tampered with my safe?
Hold buttons two and three down for approximately five seconds. First you will see a green light flash, then you will see either a flashing green light or a flashing red light. The green light indicates that no tampering has been detected. The red light indicates that someone has entered invalid entries into the keypad. The tamper indicator will clear when a valid access code is entered.
